Oh, okay hawkmoon, now you're a "root causes" kinda guy.

Why not blame the Englightenment, industrial revolution, and modernity? After all, for centuries before the age of European expansion, the Islamic world was the antithesis of "economically stagnant and repressed."

A hundred or more years of Turkish and European colonialism seems to have been a pretty big root cause of the current condition of the Middle East. So the answer is... American neo-Colonalism? And we're going to impose democracy in a country that was a creation of the British and Turkish empires, encompassing three mutually antagonistic groups of people, in a place that has never known the rule of law, industrialization, or even a middle class.

Funny thing is, as harebrained as that plan is, it is more of a plan that the Bush Administration has so far elaborated.

But back to Osama-- I wasn't talking about where is money came from; I'm talking about where his ASS is, in the Pak-Afghan border area. Of course, his cause is now atomized far more broadly, in Europe, Asia, North America, etc. Quite a few places actually--but not Iraq. Until now.
