No, he will never "wake up" but he will fall into a bitter, angry minority, just like the Goldwater wing of the Republican party did after 1964. If Bush loses in November, the hardcore right will be out in the wilderness for several election cycles to come.

I know a lot of moderate Republicans who would like to have candidates they could vote for again.
