:52AM Proxim warns on Q1 as revenues disapppoint (PROX) by Mark Cotton
NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Proxim Corp (PROX) said it expects to report a wider first quarter loss than previously forecast due to lower-than-anticipated revenues for the period. The wireless networking equipment maker is now forecasting an operating pro-forma loss in the range of 4 cents per share to 6 cents per share compared to a previous target range of a loss of a penny to 3 cents a share. Revenues are forecast between $25 million and $27 million against a prior estimate of $37 million provided in January. The Thomson First Call mean estimate is for a first quarter loss of 2 cents a share on revenue of $37.02 million. On a positive note, the Sunnyvale, Calif. company said its first quarter order backlog will be around $12 million, reflecting a late quarter increase in orders. This compares to an order backlog of $6.3 million at the end of the fourth quarter. Proxim will announce its results on April 27, after the market close. Shares of Proxim were down 5 cents, or 2.8 percent at $1.74.
