< whose sister company BioMonde sells leeches and maggots for treating wounds.>

Couldn't come up with a joke, but this produced a recollection: when I was growing up in Seattle, there were still barber shops on Skid Road that posted signs: "We have leeches", and they were for sucking the blood out of black eyes; popular with rowdy sailors, my mother explained.

Obviously we're going to need assistance from the Royal Canadian Air Farce writers. When they heard that increased ejaculations lowered prostate cancer risks, they cited this as a fine way to BEAT cancer.

Or was that, "When it comes to prostate cancer, we now now the best way to beat it."

Does the story imply that in lieu of IBD one ends up with a whipworm infestation?

Vatican, Rome (Reuters): The Pope announced today in a new encyclical that Catholics will not be allowed to use the newly discovered treatment for IBD lest something happens similar to what happened the last time someone had a diet of worms.

Diet of Worms: (January 27-May 25, 1521) The First diet of emperor Charles V where the Edict of Worms was issued against Luther and his followers. Charles V wished to consolidate his power and set the guidelines for internal peace and governing. The "Luther issue" is what the diet is remembered for. It was brought to the diet at the urging of Frederick the Wise of Saxony. Frederick wanted his bright professor to be heard by the officials which was also the wish of Luther. At the diet Luther refused to recant his writings and teachings and therefore defied both emperor and pope. The Diet of Worms set the course for the division of Christendom by letting Luther have the spotlight.
