We went over to eastern washington one year to help my husbands brother build his house on a hill that he owned with a bunch of hippies. On the way we stopped in Omak Washington and did some dove shooting. Within a few minutes of opening we had bagged our limits. As I'm sure you are aware, the only useful part of a dove is the breast, and it's about the size of an Oreo cookie. We took what we bagged with us after packing it on ice and after we arrived at my brother in laws I told everyone on the commune that I would fix dove pot pie for dinner and that we could all eat it when they returned home from work that afternoon. They all thanked me but wanted to let me know that they were all vegetarians so they wouldn't be able to eat the pie with us. I said that was fine and I'd do my best to include a variety of vegetables in the meal. There was an old wood stove I used for cooking so I started a cook fire and set about fixing the pie with what I found available.....carrots, onions, whole wheat flour and butter. They all returned from a days work and after they washed up and dinner came around and we all sat down to eat....they eating their veggies and us our pie. It smelled delicious and tasted even better......I think we were making all sorts of snorting sounds eating that pie. After a few minutes and some longing stares, they couldn't contain themselves any longer, and asked if they could please have some pie. Of course we shared it with them. They practically inhaled the darned thing. <gg>
