Well CB...

Do you think the "old" Vietnam Math-o-Magic is going to be accurate? I fail to see the tactical similarity between Vietnam and Iraq. As you have said we own the night, and our armor and medicals are much improved over anything that existed in Algeria or Vietnam. If Fallujah is an attempt to recreate "Hue," it will be Iraqi meat in the grinder, not ours.

Moreover, I figure this enemy will not be able to sustain 800,000 KIA, much less a million before caving. But we don't need them to cave. We only need them to shut up long enough to conduct some election.

But if the object is to create a real democracy, tough enough to survive, then I think you are dead bang right about the 800,000 troops required and 20 years of occupation.

If I were going to go that route (which I am not) in a serious way I would definitely avoid the draft though. I'd sooner move our troops out of Europa and Korea where they don't belong. If the South Koreans can't survive by now they aren't worth saving and as far as I can tell a couple of air bases in England and maybe a hospital air/base combo in Warsaw is all we need in Europe.

I'd reserve the draft for the BIG WAR. You know. The one we fight right after some numbnut spreads nuclear waste down the Magnificent Mile in Chitown. Yeah I think that would do it.

Let them nuke Chicago and I'm fairly certain that you'll get a lot more than a million enemy KIA. ...No matter who the "enemy" is.
