Probably. But the corruption got so bad in South Vietnam after we abrogated the terms of the Geneva accords that some people were forced into hardened fighters.

Same situation we face now. If we impose our government on them it will end up corrupt and unpopular. If we let them vote the Shiites will win and oppress the rest.

It's a no win situation. It was from the start. The trouble is we don't have the patience to wait out the bad guys and gently support the good guys.

We always go for "our bastard". And those guys getting shot up over there are getting shot up because of it.

We could force the price of oil down and weaken the Saudi's and all the rest just by conservation. It would make our economy stronger, clean up the air and save us tons of money that we are now paying for cruse missles. They aren't cheap you know. By forcing this with violence we are just going to solidify them and weaken our own position.

Damn stupid strategically.
