1:39PM FedEx ups Q4 outlook (FDX) by Ciara Linnane
NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- FedEx (FDX) raised its fourth-quarter earnings outlook by 5 cents to $1.20 to $1.30, excluding restructuring costs, citing cost cuts and an improving economy. The company earned 92 cents a share a year ago. FedEx said it expects 2004 earnings of $3.40 to $3.50, also excluding restructuring costs, compared with $2.74 a year ago. For 2005, earnings are forecast at $4.00 to $4.20. The average estimate of analysts polled by Thomson First Call is for fourth-quarter earnings of $1.20, 2004 earnings of $3.40 and 2005 earnings of $4.04. Shares were last down 61 cents at $74.45.
