The term is "compassionate conservative". The point is, it's fine if President Bush wants to adjust our foreign and domestic policy to meet new challenges as they arise, like terrorism. But, the "conservative" fisically prudent thing to do would be to cut money from other areas or to raise taxes to pay for the new spending. Running $500 Billion deficits isn't particularly conservative or fiscally prudent. It's mortgaging our future, and is bad fiscal policy in the long run.
