Another thing is we are/were far too liberal in letting everyone and their third cousin live here, and Bush is not much better on that score....
I know the old traditional argument that "we are a nation of immigrants", and "the only original Americans are the native Americans", but it is high time we demand the INS do their job properly, and we place a very tight leash on who and how many new people we allow into this country....
The environment will also continue to deteriorate if we allow too many people to live in America. The world has enough folks who wish to come here that we will eventually "drown" in a "flood" of humanity if strong measures are not taken soon.

It's pretty well understood that the most effective ways to prevent terrorist attacks involve some amount of government infringement on people's rights.
============
Really, understood by who, certainly not me, statements like this scare the hell out of me. Personally I am much more concerned about the erosion of my civil liberties than any terrorist attacks.The likelihood of being a victim of terrorism are lower than being hit by lightning. However the erosion of our liberties are guaranteed to effect everyone of us. I do agree most Americans think the same as you do and thats the real danger.

Willingness to allow infringements of our rights is a slippery slope. Do you think at some point the government will just voluntarily stop this process of infringement they will always believe controlling our movements,freedoms are better. It has been happening for the last 20 years, 911 just gave them carte blanche and the public said sure take all you want. Sure seems many folks on this thread have very high expectations that the government is supposed to take care of us, jobs,entitlements, medical care, clean environment, cheap products without outsourcing, redistribution of wealth blah blah blah. What ever happened to taking responsibility for ones own situation and not relying on others. BTW I don't like either candidate they are both dangerous in different ways and will do serious damage to this country, give me more freedom, privacy, and less government in every aspect of my life, I will take care of myself just fine. Lets get back to what the founding fathers intended. I like to follow the creed "If it's to be it's up to me" but that seems to be a foreign concept in America.
