They hate us because modern civilization threatens their culture. You give women the vote, start building nudie bars, beer stores, and hook everybody up to cable TV, pretty soon nobody wants to blow themselves up anymore. I say some of this in jest, but the clerics know they will not be able to maintain a culture that has been frozen in time when it is confronted with the amenities of modern civilization.

Target in the REAL sense of trying to get something accomplished other than invading sovereign nations unilaterally and against the UN and most all other countries of power in the world.
