"No Sunnis, no Shiites, yes for Islamic unity," the marchers chanted. "We are Sunni and Shiite brothers and will never sell our country."

In my opinion Great Britain created a number of arbitrary boundaries when running their colonies in order to split ethnic groups and make the colonies easier to manage - divide and conquer.

This has left lasting problems in India, which eventually split into India and Pakistan, and later Pakistan into Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Iraq is another mythical nations decreed by the British. Although Turkey would be extremely unhappy with this result. Northern Iraq is Kurdistan, Southern Iraq a Shiite nation, and central Iraq the old Babylon made up of Sunni, Chaldeans, and other ethnic groups.

Great Britain left similar mischief in Africa, other areas of the Middle East and the South Pacific.

There must be some reason we support the continuation of these arbitrary boundaries, apart from nostalgia, but I can't figure out what those reasons might be.

A move in this direction would clearly leave Russia and certain other nations with some uncomfortable questions, but I think the eventual outcome will be something along these lines.
