When people came to America, the Catholic church held very little worldy power. And Spain that seemed to have it all, was Catholic and led by misguided but sincerely religious monarchs blew it all. England's head chop off church of King Henry may have been quite intolerant, but that's not Catholic. I believe the majority of people then as now came to America because the streets are lined with GOLD. And a major potion of the glitter in that gold is tolerance, secular tolerance. I can't say I know any Americans who care what your religion is.
