Michal, it's weird how things all come home to roost ...

Man, that second excerpt sure was biased. "Without international support" is a sore thumb of a classically false statement (you can make fun of countries on the long list of international supporters by noting those who aren't on it, and that the total non-US contributions amount to maybe 10% (is it actually higher? Going on memory here)) of the effort, but to make a grandiose statement stating "without international support" is, actually, a plain lie, apparantly to make a case look stronger than it is, IMO).

"Happy talk before the war" was talk offered, in context, to counter notions of disaster (particularly notions of disaster in the INITIAL stage. In fact, the reality that a majority of Iraqis support what we've been doing for them somewhat supports that "happy talk," particularly when we consider that it countered predictions of immediate large scale guerrilla warfare against a populace opposing our efforts (certainly, events of recent days still involve a small faction that can be put down effectively; particularly because, as H. Kissinger noted tonight on Gretta/Fox News, like the TET offensive of Vietnam, in fact the enemy has come together out in the open (as opposed to the ongoing isolated attacks) and may likely suffer great losses quickly).
