Your post sounds like an excerpt from a Gore Vidal novel. If true, none of this changes the end result: This is the greatest free nation on earth and has done more to further human rights than any other. Lincoln made that possible by saving the Union.

You and many others in these discussions judge the greatest men and women in history by the minutia of their failings rather than the grandeur of their achievements.

By the way, it's "Emancipation." I thought you'd like to know.

Dave, you know nothing of Lincoln. Do you know when MD State representatives went to vote on whether to secede, Lincoln had them all arrested. That after that, US Supreme Court Chief Justise Tanney told Lincoln that was un-Constitutional, Lincoln's reply was, Shut up or I will arrest the entire US Supreme Court.
That his Emancapation(sp) Proclamation only freed the slaves in the confederacy NOT the slaves in the North.
You need to read up on Lincoln and not listen to public school propoganda
