What is happening in Iraq gives the lie to one of the few remaining justifications for the invasion, which is that it's better to fight the terrorists in Iraq than to fight them in the US.

The people we are currently fighting we need not have fought at all. There is no evidence that these young, poor shiites would ever have taken up arms against the US absent the occupation. The same is true of the sunni insurgents.

So far from giving us a chance to fight islamic terrorists on their home turf, the battles we now face keep us from fighting them at all.
