Moscow’s Domodedovo international airport may soon introduce a biometric registration system that would scan passengers’ fingerprints, a spokesman from the airport’s press service told MosNews.

East-Line, the airport’s operator, has begun work on a massive program to optimize security at the airport, the company press release said. The program puts a special focus on using the newest technology for security purposes.

“A test program has already begun,” a spokesman told MosNews. According to him, it will use finger prints, and other biometrical information to identify passengers. “In order to avoid the possibility of unauthorized persons entering the airport premises, an addition control system is being implemented. It reads information from an ID card and identifies it with the fingerprints of its holder. Then the computer scans a database using this information.”

The spokesman said that soon this technology would be used to register passengers. “The boarding pass will have additional information, in order to ensure security,” the spokesman said.

He said it was not certain, however, how soon these changes would be implemented.
