So rent a house with a garden...

I don't see a problem here. Buying a house is always a risk, but right now it about an order of magnitude riskier. In my previous post, I talked about my son wanting to buy, and me telling him to wait until after the US elections.

If you do decide to buy, can you stand the shock if interest rates start to move up? People need MORE cushion now, not less.

Just my opinion.

I agree with CD. Rent a house. I got married three years ago and we sold my wife's house and she moved into my smaller condo. My wife wants to live in a more expensive part of town and I figured house prices would start down shortly after. Of course, that hasn't happened and my wife bugs me about it all the time. She thinks house prices can only go up. So far, I haven't budged. It's not worth it.
