No it wasn't semantic gymnastics great or otherwise. And if you follow the threat back from that post the primary issue that Ted was talking about was not political substance but rather calling me overly partisan and complaining about my "word games" when an inaccurate statement by a liberal is challenged.

Nitpick away, but the bottom line is still the same, plus or minus a few percentage points or adjectives.

If it really was a minor difference then I wouldn't care to much. If I nitpicked at all it would only be in the context of agreeing to the larger point (which I have done on more then a few occasions) but "Bush is a spendthrift" or "Bush is fiscally irresponsible" is a far cry from "Bush has increased spending faster then any other president"

Also

"Iraqi WMD are going to blow up American cities in the new few months" is a far cry from "Iraqi WMD present a clear danger" or "Saddam is studying ways of deliver WMD to the US".

The differences are enough to be substantive points not mere differences in emphasis or style or even minor points of fact.
