When republicans go on an 8 year smear campaign against Bill Clinton that is "seeking the truth". When a crossdressing republican in Texas sees pictures of himself in a dress he wears of his own free will it is dirty politics. The link has a picture of Sam (Samatha) in his best dress. I bet he'll be a hit at the convention. ___________________________________ Posted on Fri, Apr. 09, 2004 Investor and candidate Sam Walls, left, attended conventions in cross-dress attire, right, as Samantha Walls, a transgender activist said Thursday. Sam Walls as Samantha Walls Transgender group activist recalls Walls By Jay Root Star-Telegram Staff Writer CLEBURNE - At home in Johnson County, he is Sam Walls the wealthy investor, philanthropist and Republican activist. In the Texas cross-dressing community, he was Samantha Walls, longtime member of a support group for heterosexual men who dress up as women and meet together to talk about it. This is the dual portrait emerging of the candidate from Cleburne who wants to represent heavily Republican House District 58 in the Texas Legislature, according to interviews with his supporters, cross-dressing literature and Houston transgender activist Brenda Thomas. "He's a nice guy ... a gentlemen in a dress," Thomas said in an interview Thursday. Thomas, born as a man but living as a woman, said she and Walls once belonged to the same cross-dressing group, known as Society for the Second Self. She said they saw each other about three times a year at cross-dressing conventions and events during the 1990s. Thomas said she last saw Walls at a Houston gathering for cross-dressers in November 1999. When news broke about his cross-dressing past, Thomas said, she knew instantly that the Sam Walls running for office was the cross-dressing Samantha Walls she had known for years. "I was shocked, to be honest with you," Thomas said. "As soon as I saw the headline, I knew exactly who it was." She said she was surprised because Samantha Walls was concerned about "protecting her identity." Walls, through campaign consultant Craig Murphy, declined to answer questions from reporters for a third straight day Thursday. Information about Walls' cross-dressing past emerged last week when photos of him in women's clothing began circulating in District 58. Dozens of photos of Walls were seized when a mobile home in Crowley, registered in Walls' name, was repossessed in 2002. After the cross-dressing photos began circulating, a group of Republicans -- including County Sheriff Bob Alford and Jeff Judd, chairman of the Republican Party in Johnson County -- urged Walls to withdraw from the race. Walls called the photos "blackmail" and said his opponent, real estate broker Rob Orr, had engaged in "dirty political tactics." --- more------- dfw.com
