"...forced them to convert to Islam or face slaughter..."

You have outlined the flaw in Islam and pointed to the fact that there are no moderates and no conciliatory middle ground. We are in a pickle and being soft is not the right response. We now face the same choice as the peoples of middle east countries have faced for many years.

Haim you are correct, everyone should read up on the history. The breakup of the Ottoman Empire is particularly instructive in light of current events.. Message 20012917

name of their prophet Allah You are confusing the God with the prophet.. If it turns out to be all the same God you might be in trouble :o)

Tatars nowhere to be found That's pretty complicated. which Tatars ? The original ones with the Mongol problems ?
Assyrians Yeah they were good guys too :o) pre Islam
The Arabs subdued, Ashurbanipal went against Elam, which had accepted bribes from his rebellious brother and given him assistance. The war went on for nearly a decade, until the Assyrians won the last battle in 639 B.C. They devastated and thoroughly plundered the entire land of Elam; the Elamites disappear from history at this point. The rivalry between Elam and Mesopotamia, which had lasted for more than two thousand years, was finally over.
