Does protectionism cause economic hardship.......possibly but its a small contributor. There are many other factors that are more important.

Protectionist is relative. For quite some time the US has been less protectionist then much of the world and our transition to a less protectionist country is one of the sources of our post WWII economic growth.

I can agree with that as long as protectionism isn't to strong. It isn't very strong in the US and it has been decreasing more then increasing.

Myth 2........if we eliminate our trade barriers, things would get better economically. Total BS

Not BS. Its completely true. It would be much better if other countries reciprocated but either way lowering trade barriers would be good for our country.
