After Dec. 27, the program will no longer accept applications, and aid will run out by April 3. [no more benefits, for anyone after April 3 if you applied for temp federal benefits during last eligible week of Dec 27 ...your 13 weeks of federal are all gone by then.]

The program expired because Congress adjourned for the year without extending the benefits.

People are taking part time jobs because that is all there is and benefits just ran out.

Japanese Hostages in Iraq

you gotta admire the cynicism of the Japanese. reading chat sites like channel 2 and the comments were quite merciless--the three hostages were called "The Three Idiots" for going to Iraq and there were many calls to let them have their just desserts. they said that after all, Japan should be glad to be rid of this "human trash": only one had a college degree--and that from some no-name podunk place in Hokkaido. another was a "self-proclaimed" photographer or something, while the last was part of some cheesy NGO.

if the Japanese care so little about their own people "in country", just imagine how much they must care about Americans there.
