Its capital was in Istanbul, of course. But who was going to determine what replaced it after the Empire collapsed in 1918, that was the question - Britain or the Young Turks?

And who determined Turkey's borders where their "homeland" ended and its former colonies began?

I would say the European powers had quite a bit to do with that.. Just as they did with the eventual borders of the rest of the region.
