I believe when you sign on, it should mean that you can't do a "tell all". In fact, I think they should write that into the contract.
The British Royal Family does just that. For all the good it does.

How can you be open and honest with your advisers if whatever is said is subject to be reported?
What about your advisors being open and honest with you? If Clarke, before 911, was so certain that that attack was coming, didn't he have an absolute responsibility to blow the whistle and quit or be fired if necessary? I would think that comes with the job and is one of the risks.

It looks a whole lot like he's using 20/20 hindsight to spotlight mistakes that were very murky at the time they occurred.
