Nice link. Lots of information.

I guess it was due to very high initial capital and technology barriers for the starters to compete with the giants. Don't know the minimum entry costs for copper.

May be some onlookers know the reasons.

I recall Aluminum replacing cu in the 2nd world war shortages for some needs.
