For Japan look at MJFOX which is tilted towards financials, and FJSCX, small domestic companies. Mutual funds as a way to get into companies without adrs. Also they do the DD for 1.5 %.

MJFOX has done nicely.

EWJ is good for trading.

I simply am not certain and so am cautious, aware that there simply are no sure bets under the weird circumstances we find ourselves.
