Eco-terrorists to me are mainly the ones who destroy nature. Those other kind who burn down development sites or spike trees are but a tiny fraction compared to those who destroy in the first place.

Anti-development or cutting eco-terrorism doesn't work but it's probably a sign that "we're mad as hell and won't take it anymore". After all the destroyers use police, bulldozers, threats and violence and always have. They're always the bullies with the law on their side. Or how do you like the guys who deliberately shot Spotted Owls so there wouldn't be any left to protect.

One answer is to legalize hemp because it will make trees unncessary for paper manufacturing. Maybe Kerry will finally make this long overdue move. Hemp grows like a weed, does not get you high and has very strong fibres.
