Reagan's misery index was just a political tool, it had no direct economic value.

Kerry's middle class misery index is the same thing; it is a political tool. However the facts are correct. As an example, average weekly earnings for the middle class have declined (in real terms) since Bush took office. Meanwhile, their expenses have soared (health care costs, gasoline, etc.).

It is a political tool, but it is a solid measure of the damage to the middle class under Bush.

I think for certain sectors what you say is very true. But overall its just not that bad.
