From my point of view, the Iraq war was an error because we sent in 150,000 troops to control a population of 25,000,000. To put this into perspective, let each "*" count for 50,000 troops or civilians. This is how the numbers worked out: Coalition Troops: *** Iraqi Civilians: ************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** Those aren't good odds, unless you've already beaten the bejesus out of the civilian population by, for example, nuking them or fire bombing them. To put this into military perspective, here's how the numbers stacked up when George Armstrong Custer, with a force of 260, attacked approximately 10,000 Indians at the battle of the Little Big Horn. Each "*" means 50 troops or Indians: US troops & friendlies: ***** Indians: **************************************** **************************************** **************************************** **************************************** **************************************** You can see that the numbers in Iraq are considerably worse than the numbers that wiped Custer out. Now our technological advantages over the Iraqis are wider than Custer's technological advantages over the Indians, but not by enough. -- Carl
