However, the author also finds the occasional call for tolerance in the middle ages somewhere. I agree with your hope that "government will stay out of private affairs, abortion, phoney and expensive drug wars, stem cell research and religion". John may not talk about it all that much, but then he won't fill position papers with plans for constitutional amendments either. But each of those social wars will get sanctioned in the upcoming Republican Platform.
