I don't think it's so much that they're afraid that their newspaper will be shutdown (like what kind of message is the U.S. sending when we pull stunts like that in Iraq?!?), it's more like the major U.S. media has a vested interested in seeing the U.S. prevail in Iraq and take over their oil. Their board of directors are all interlocking with other major American corporations. They're all on the same team. No reason why the American media would want to hurt it's own team by pointing out the obvious and connecting the dots, no matter how dark a pattern they might eventually reveal to the American people.

One of the biggest myths in America in my lifetime has been this myth of the "liberal media". A real "liberal media" would connect the dots on 9/11 and WMDs as you suggest they should be doing. But, they have no interest in doing so. Why should they want to knock their boy George out office and hurt their profits and the profits of all their buddies in elite corporate circles? Did you know that despite the "liberal media" label, America's newspapers have overwhelmingly endorsed Republicans for President over the past Century (it's something like 80% Republican edorsements when all newspapers are accounted for, we all know the biggies like the NY Times and Wash Post often endorese Dems, but when all newspapers around the country are taken into consideraton, a conservative bent clearly appears in their endorsements for President).
