Option #4. Clean house. Fire Rumsfeld and Rice and purge the neocons in the Administration. Announce that Cheney will not to run again for "health reasons". Repudiate "unilateral regime change" as the cornerstone of US foreign policy. Admit making a mistake by invading Iraq. Meet with Russia, France, Germany, China and Great Britain and create the foundation for an effective, unified American-European position on Iraq. Meet with the Arab states in the middle east and agree to do something about the dreadful situation in Israel while getting the Arab states to sign on to do something helpful in Iraq.

re #2 - remember jokes (some time ago) about the "coalition of the billing" ... The bill run up so far is quite extraordinary and it's a question who's able to handle the tab of this size and kind...
