If you don't think failure in every conceivable arena has been the hallmark of Arab life for the past few centuries, you need to go back to square one and read a little history. I'm not being judgmental about this, it is simply a fact. Our actions in Iraq, which I labeled as "ironic" in this sense, are the first since the Young Turks were around that promise significant change for the better to the Arabs. I thought long ago that the example of Israel would be the catalyst. I was wrong. Read up on the Young Turks. They are the reason why Turkey is not presently a basket case like its neighbors.
