Just to set the stage for what is expected tonight from LLTC and INTC - from Briefing.com

<< * 15:11 ET Linear Tech Earnings Preview (LLTC) 38.92 -0.54: Linear Tech joins Intel on an unusually thin earnings calendar this evening. LLTC consensus for the qtr is $0.25/$203.74 mln with the EPS range a very narrow $0.25-$0.26. Piper Jaffray says it expects co to exceed revised revenue growth guidance of 10% qtr/qtr with possible upside to firm's $0.25 EPS est as well. Firm also thinks that estimates are likely go higher following the conference call... Wedbush Morgan is looking for co to give higher than consensus guidance for the JunQ with EPS guidance in the vicinity of $0.28-$0.29 (consensus is $0.27) and q/q rev guidance closer to 10% vs 7% consensus.

* 14:47 ET Intel Earnings Preview (INTC) 27.74 +0.14: INTC is scheduled to report Q1 (Mar) results today after the market closes. The analyst community in general is not expecting fireworks, with Reuters consensus EPS at $0.27 and revs at $8.17 bln (guidance is for revs in the range of $8.0-$8.2 bln and for gross margin of 60% +/-1). In general, analysts expect the co to report Q1 results in-line with mgmt's guidance and guide conservatively for Q2. Several firms have been taking down their numbers over the past few weeks, making it easier for the co to come in-line or even exceed. More negative firms like JP Morgan expect Intel to guide for a 2-4% q/q decrease in revenue. Also, they expect gross margin guidance for Q2 to be lowered to 59%. All in all, it seems the expectations for Q1 and Q2 guidance are low. Earnings Volatility History: in the past 3 qtrs, on Jan 14 the co beat by 2 cents, guided in-line (stock down 1% the following day); on Oct 14 the co beat by 2 cents, guided in-line (stock +2%); on July 15 co beat by a penny, guided in-line (stock +5%).>>
