fancying myself an utterly non-partisan wonk, contemptuous of all hacks

That's because you're a liberal. Seriously. No lie. No joke.

I've quit banging my head trying to get John M. to see exactly this same thing, and gave it up as hopeless over a year ago.

He's also absolutely convinced that the New York Times is non-partisan.

As far as I am concerned, life is too short to re-fight that battle with you. It doesn't mean that I don't value your opinion, or that I don't agree with you often.

I've been quite snippy, even nasty, with people I otherwise agree with, simply because I rejected the thought process by which they derived their positions as being not rational. But then, I probably tell people to shut up too often.

Feel free to snap back, it's ok.

Sounds like it's really bad on this thread.

"While I believe myself innocent of partisanship, I do
get sanctimonious and preachy about irrational partisan
bias, which I truly hate. I find it hard to resist
addressing some of the most conspicuous and egregious
examples of partisan overreach that I run across here."

Could you cite a few prime examples of "irrational
partisan bias" that you "run across here"?

Also, could you cite just a couple of the "most
conspicuous and egregious examples of partisan overreach"
that you "run across here"?

It would be nice to know just what your threshold is on these two issues.

TIA
