When he was asked what mistake he had made and how would he do it differently the next time around (looks like a question you would ask a interviewee), he went into some thinking.

I interpret it as one of two ways: either he thinks that he did not make any or that he has made so many he does not know where to start.

Bush admits he doesn't read much or watch TV news.
He relies on his handlers to fill him in on what Cheney wants him to know about and nothing else.
