The children were hanging out near the AMericans and sleeping under their vehicles. When the soldiers started their vehicles they had to make sure no children were under or in any of them.

The older kids are getting swept up in the crowds of insurgents cause they have no place to go. The younger ones can be coerced by the humanitarian groups. It's pitiful and exceptionally sad.

The older children are probably prime targets for the suicide bomb recruiters.
