tc,

Have you noticed any new features or fixes by upgrading Mozilla Firebird to Firefox? The Firefox description on the Mozilla website sounds identical to Firebird.

Regarding the cd that is malfunctioning - I got this advice from my nephew - is this sound advice?

The best way to fix a problem like this is to prove that the cd player is shot. The way to do that is swap the cd player with another cd player. Even if its from another machine. CD players can do some weird stuff if they go bad. And unlike other hardware, the CD player will not require you to do any installation. Just swap the thing physcially and it should work. Unlike changin a network card, an ethernet card, or a sound card, the CD does NOT need any drivers installed.

Thats where I would begin.
