Yes, they were. And don't forget his historic speech to the nation after 9/11. That was a classic.

"Finest moments" indeed.

Nobody ever said that the man couldn't read a prepared speech--one written by a smart person--or even that he couldn't memorize sound bytes, or that he's not photogenic, if you put aside the deer-in-the-headlights look the poor thing still hasn't shed.

It always strikes me as surpassing strange when after Bush reads a speech somebody's written for him and he's rehearsed with a coach the talking heads talk about how excellent it was. It's exactly like raving about Charlton Heston's leadership qualities based on his impersonation of Moses.
