G, I know that the calendar year has been bad but there were plenty of gains in the previous nine months which is why I wrote 12 consecutive months and not calendar year.

When there is more net down volume in the market than up volume the only conclusion I can reach is institutional selling. I guess it does not matter if they are protecting gains or preventing losses.

There was an awful lot of institutional selling in January, February and March.

MF year is Oct to Sept. not Jan to Dec.

eventhough they usually tell investors using calendar year, doing accounting, which includes calc manager's bonus, 99% of them go by the Oct to Sept year - because the income tax requirement they have with IRS (now they have to report 95% of the yearly gain/loss instead of carry-over, law changed few years ago).
