Your response was to couple Nixon to Jacob via their beliefs. That can be construed as a kick in the rear. Then why did Jacob just say that he was going to leave the thread and spare us all the personal details as to why? Just as you can construe my pointing out that Nixon was a Quaker as some kind of "kick in the rear" towards Jacob, I find his insinuation that somehow he's wasting his tiime discussing the issues of the day with us as being a kick in the rear, and far more insulting. Listen... I've always stated that I could care less what someone's views are, so long as they attempt to have a logical basis for believing them.. It certainly helps that they should be willing to submit them to scrutiny and criticism from others (as I've endeavored to do) so as to identify any glaring faults in their opinions. That's how we learn.. And it's also how we should seek to develop worthwhile opinions that reflect the condition of our daily lives, so that we don't find ourselves engaged in endless delusions about the events going on around us. Bowing out of an active discussion of the issues, with the insinuation that we're not worth his time is, to me, the ultimate insult. And this is how extremism develops. People opting out of the mainstream discussion, because they find that their logic is not sound enough that they can convince a wider audience, turning instead to some kind of fanatical extreme.. But thank goodness that the extreme he's turning to is pacifism, rather than religious militancy. I don't seem him doing any actual harm to anyone in order to advance his ideas. I just wish the same could be said for the religious fanatics who believe that they have every right to kill, kidnap, torture, and intimidate anyone who opposes them. Hawk
