Anything else you wish to apologize for, Mr. President? Didn't you stick your gum under your desk in the 6th grade?"

Actually, we already know the answer to that one. He was an habitual offender. (g)

The reporters who kept harping on that were fishing for a sound bite, hopefully a juicy one that could be played over and again. And if they really got lucky Kerry could have used it in an ad. Good for Bush he didn't give them one.

Nothing else would have done it.

Maybe not now. Earlier, had he just showed a thread of humility, or even just toned down the arrogance, I don't think this would have ever become an issue. It that 'tude that keeps people jabbing, although I though he kept a pretty good lid on it last night. Maybe he's learned, or maybe he's just tired. It's a good thing the man is in such good physical condition or his health under all this strain would be worrisome.

Personally, I find the apology thing absurd. Sorrow and regret are the appropriate sentiment, not admission or atonement. IMO, of course. But then I don't have the same attachment to apology and forgiveness that most people seem to have.
