Bush's first long Crawford vacation cost us 9-11:

"Tenet said he had not spoken to the president that month, when Bush was staying at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, nor did he bring it to the attention of other senior officials, saying simply it did not fit the agenda.
"He's in Texas and I'm either here or on leave for some of that time," he said. "In this time period, I'm not talking to him, no."

Apparently Tenet didn't feel Bush wanted to be bothered with little things like terrorist threats while he was cutting brush and posing for photo ops in his boots and buckle.

totally agree.... I should have restated my post to say that Kerry has no "election level" issues.

Like all elections where an incumbent is running, the primary issue is the incumbents record anyway. I'm the first to admit that Kerry might not be the most charismatic guy... but otoh Clinton didn't come across as much when he was first elected either. We know what we've got with Bush though.
