Carl, The mm makes the bid and offer where he wants to buy or sell. Certificates don't enter into his computation. Most firms don't want to send out certs due to the shipping and handling costs. Yes, they pass them on, but if they're a deep discounter, which Schwab is not, they may not have the staff to do this no matter what amount they can gouge you. Most also don't have their own vaults, as they clear through a big clearing firm.
