Well I wouldn't say one has to have seen this film to be "cinematically literate." The movie, while acceptable, is overrated, was overrated when it first hit the streets and, because of barbaric oafs masquerading as well-read snobs, it will apparently continue to be overrated. Most leftists I have met, and I assume the same about every single leftist I have read here, are generally quite ignorant of classic literature, music and even films. Personally, I don’t think films deserve the same stature as literature, music and art. One can be considered quite educated having seen very few films, especially since the ratio of excellent films to cinematic trash is astonishingly low. Read a dang book – or maybe two. Learn how to appreciate Picasso. Learn fifty symphonies and how to play a few simple piano sonatas and then, provided you are still alive, come back and refer to your still nauseatingly poor cultural “literacy.” (dear me)
