Iraq & WMDs. Only conspiracy nuts allowed to read.

Iraq qualifies as one of the least desirable places to live. Of course it is all Saddam's fault, dropping population and all.

Thank you and I think what you have said has a considerable element of truth. Indeed, two of the hardest things to appreciate are our good fortune and then to be grateful for it, especially taking into account the problems we still have and the journey the country has been on.

Not really so. In SA, we don't live on an island. I know it's trite to say it but, in many ways, SA is a microcosm of the world. We have been lucky here because it could have, so easily, gone the other way. Our racial, economic, crime and AIDS problems are bad enough but fortunately we were spared the religious bigotry and self-righteousness which is clearly behind so much of the misfortune in the Middle East. Also we are lucky we don't have any particular resource that greedy people in other places might want. Here's another survey which you might find interesting.

Apropos the SA family which you mention, they apparently have a congenital condition called Variegate Porphyria. It's true that they can't be in the sun.

I'm sorry to hear that you have psoriasis. That's a lousy condition especially since there doesn't seem to be an effective treatment. I believe UV light is good.
