PB, I recently made a day trip from Houston to the town of Lake Jackson, which is a little south of your location of "Just south of Houston". Had never been there before and found it to be an interesting place. With its unusual layout and with two of its primary streets being named This Way and That Way, its founders obviously had a lot of creativity.

Had a wonderful lunch at Annice's and an interesting experience at the town's very nice museum -- a volunteer gentlemen wanted to stay with my ladyfriend and me, chattering away as we began the tour. He meant well but got on nerves after a bit, so we had to gracefully "lose" him. We've since had a laugh or two about our personal guide.

Apparently one of the historical biggies for the little town was when a hijacked airliner landed near the town, and Jessica Savitch, then a young reporter on a Houston TV station, was arrested after a scuffle with police while trying to get closer to the action.
