As for the rest of the country, they were sold a bill of goods, and frightened to death about Saddam and his deadly WMDs and the mushroom clouds and on and on.

You must admit, for an innocent man he did a really fine imitation of a guilty one. Really fine.

what surprises me is that he wasn't overthrown
Stalin. Mao. Hitler (although almost in his case). Pol Pot.
It's not that hard to come up with murderous ruthless dictators who died quietly in bed.
