But, to offer just one example, you assert that he defended the Khmer Rouge

Chomsky said that it may be discovered "that the Khmer Rouge programs elicited a positive response". And he said it three years after the slaughter of the Khmer Year Zero. If that is not defending, what is?

As I understand Hitchens Chomsky's basic position it was not a defense of the Khmer Rouge but criticisms of the media's claims

If you were to spend your time attacking all Republican claims on politics, the economy, foreign policy, concentrating on those Republican claims that attack or attempt to disprove Democratic positions on these issues, would it then be intellectually honest if you were to claim that you do not defend Democratic positions, you are merely opposing Republican attacks on them? If you were to insist that nobody should infer from your arguments that you support the Democrats?

That is Chomsky's style.
